Jetlag Prevention Tips

Jetlag. The dreaded part of air travel that affects those travelling across the time zones. Is there a miracle cure? Unfortunately not, however there are steps that you can take which drastically reduce the debilitating effects of passing through time zones.

Effective jet lag prevention must begin before your departure. Here are some preventive steps to take prior to your flight.British Airways - Elegant Resorts

Adjust Your Sleep Pattern

A tried and tested method for preventing jetlag is to alter your sleep routine a few days prior to your departure based on your destination and the time zones you will cross during your flight. For example, if you are flying west – say to the Caribbean – you should get into the habit of going to bed an hour or two later than usual; if you are flying east – perhaps to the Maldives – go to bed an hour or two earlier. This can truly work wonders and is one of the best forms of jetlag prevention.

Take it Easy

When you get to your destination try to do things that will not tire you out – especially when you feel that you are really tired. Take a trip to the spa, or relax in the pool – whilst you are relaxing your body can refresh, rushing about will not help, but staying relaxed will most certainly help.htp://

Keep Stress at Bay

Anybody who has undergone the torments of an airport knows they often feature far more turbulence than the flight itself. Be prepared. Go online to check in so that you have less to do once you’re at the airport. Stress and anxiety can feed jet lag, so try to remain as relaxed as possible. Getting a good night’s sleep before your departure will greatly enhance your ability to keep calm leading up to and during your flight.

Once you are comfortably seated in the aircraft cabin there are a number of measures to take to prevent jetlag from spoiling the beginning of your vacation.

Control Your Consumption

Remember that you are trying to remain as relaxed as possible. Drinks containing caffeine such as tea, coffee, energy drinks and coke may be refreshing in the short term, but in the long term can heighten feelings of stress and irritability that are frequent symptoms of jetlag. It is also recommended that you limit the amount you eat during flight and stay clear of alcohol, which can compound the symptoms of jetlag.

Balance Activity and Rest

While it is a good idea to take a few short naps during long distance flights across time zones it is equally as important to rise from your seat for regular strolls up and down the cabin and to stretch your muscles. Not only will frequent bouts of exercise help prevent jetlag, they are also the best way to avoid developing deep vein thrombosis.

These tips may seem quite obvious, but in reality they are some of the simplest things you can do to combat jetlag. Depending where you are going, there is also always the option of a dip in the pool, or a massage in the spa.
